Jul 30, 2016 at 15:01 comment added ddbug Correction - from other question about adverbs: the form "больнО" does exist but this requires preceding noun (животное больнО) and is not usable with выглядеть.
Jul 29, 2016 at 22:27 comment added ddbug @vch250 this could be asked as a separate question. But generally if adverb ends with "o" this ending o is not always accented. Compare: хорошО, плОхо, здОрово (= very good) , бОльно. And as Dmitry noted, some adjectives do not have such adverb form ending with o. БОльно is related to боль (pain) but not to больной (sick).
Jul 28, 2016 at 9:07 comment added VCH250 @ Baskakov_Dmitriy seems plausible—can you expand the answer?))
Jul 28, 2016 at 1:16 comment added R.I.P.30.12.21Baskakov_Dmitriy @VCH250 We can't say "он выглядит больно", can't be used with this particular adverb. But we can say "он выглядит плохо". But "он выглядит как плохой" changes the meaning from "he looks bad" to "he looks like he is bad".
Jul 27, 2016 at 17:46 comment added VCH250 I don't think so.) Is хорошо a short adjective too? And плохо? Well one can argue that, but I think they are all adverbs if used with this verb. What would be the point of using a short adjective ending on О with this verb?
Jul 27, 2016 at 14:34 comment added Matt @VCH250 Maybe for some common adjectives Russians have just become accustomed to "incorrect usage"? You seem to mix'em up. "бОльно" is an adverb ("painfully"). (Short neuter) adjective is "больнО". Technically one may say "он выглядит больнО", but it sounds so-o weird...
Jul 26, 2016 at 21:54 comment added VCH250 That's another case творительный and not an adverb. хорошо/ плохо итд are adverbs.
Jul 26, 2016 at 21:26 comment added ddbug And there are even more variants: "он выглядит НА миллион долларов"
Jul 26, 2016 at 21:23 comment added ddbug Why we can'say? We can (with only a small correction - он выглядит больнЫМ)
Jul 26, 2016 at 21:15 comment added VCH250 but we can't say—он выглядит больно. I feel like this is a similar to case yo English where one can say "He looks bad" and bad is both and adverb and an adjective. Maybe for some common adjectives Russians have just become accustomed to "incorrect usage"?
