Dec 11, 2017 at 8:57 comment added AlexVB To me hard signs are easy: "ъ" indicates that the next vowel is pronounced as if it is the first letter in the word (and the preceding consonat is pronounced as if it is at the end of the word). That said, in everyday speach "я" after "объ" sounds more like "е", at least in Moscow region.
